TDI PRIORITIZES TRANSPARENCY BY MAKING HOME AND AUTO DATA PUBLIC
States News Service
The following information was released by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI):
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has created resources to give Texans access to data the agency collects about home insurance claims and premiums and home and auto rate filings.
By putting this information online, we're strengthening transparency and giving Texans a clearer picture of the claims being paid and premium amounts where they live, said Texas Insurance Commissioner Amanda Crawford.
Homeowners paid claims data
The Texas homeowners losses by county page shows the loss types and dollar amounts that companies paid out when Texans filed home insurance claims.
In 2025, insurance companies paid $8.74 billion in losses for wind and hail; water; fire; and theft, liability, and vandalism. Wind and hail have accounted for an average of 62% of homeowners losses since 2019.
Homeowners premium data
The Texas homeowners insurance market overview page shows average annual premiums in every Texas county from 2019 to 2025. It also shows average rate changes, information about the rate filing process, and the insurance companies who write the most premiums.
Rate filings data
The Search home and auto insurance rate filings page lets you see if your home or auto insurance company filed a rate change with TDI.
Insurance companies must file their rates with TDI before they use them to set premiums. TDI reviews the filings to make sure they're following state laws.
Shopping for insurance
Shopping for insurance is the best way to find the policy that meets your needs and budget. HelpInsure.com lets you compare sample rates and policies and learn acompany's financial rating and complaint index.
